Note This questionnaire is provided as a tool to assist potential applicants for the NSF GRFP. The information contained in this questionnaire is based on the official information in the NSF GRFP Program Solicitation, but is not an official determination of an individual's level or eligibility.
Bachelor's Degree
Are you now, have you ever been, or by the application deadline will you be enrolled in a bachelor's degree-granting program in any field for any length of time?
Joint Track: Doctoral Progress
Will have completed less than one academic year of your doctoral program by the application deadline?
Joint Track: Doctoral Enrollment
Did you enroll in a doctoral program the semester / quarter immediately following the completion of your joint degree?
Joint Track: Degree Progress
Have you completed three or more years in the joint degree program?
Joint Track: Degree Completion
Have you completed a joint bachelor's / master's degree in any field?
Level 3
Based on the information you provided, you should apply as a Level 3 applicant. Level 3 applicants are limited to only one application during their lifetime.
Level 2
Based on the information you provided, you should apply as a Level 2 applicant. Level 2 applicants are limited to only one application during their lifetime.
Level 4 conditional
Based on the information you provided, you should apply as a Level 4 applicant.

Graduate Degree
Are you now, have you ever been, or by the application deadline will you be enrolled in a graduate (master's or doctoral) or other professional degree-granting program in any field for any length of time?
Joint Degree
Are you now, have you ever been, or by the application deadline will you be enrolled in a joint bachelor's / master's degree-granting program in any field for any length of time?

Graduate Track: Academic Year
Are you currently, or by the application deadline, will you be enrolled:
1. as a first year grad student (having completed less than two years in any graduate degree-granting program)
2. as a second year grad student (having completed more than one but less than two years in any graduate degree granting program)
3. not enrolled
Graduate Track: Degree Progress
Choose one, by the application deadline, I will have completed, in any graduate degree-granting program:
1. one academic year or less*
2. more than one academic year*
*For GRFP, an academic year starts with the Fall Semester / Quarter and finishes with the Summer Semester / Quarter. Any semester / quarter outside of this cycle constitute an additional academic year.
Graduate Track: Completed Doctoral or Terminal Degree

Level 4 Checks: Two Year Break
Are there two or more years between the completion of your joint bachelor's / masters, master's, or other professional degree and the application deadline?
Graduate Track: Degree Completion
Have you completed a master's, doctoral, or other graduate / professional degree in any field?
Ineligible

Bachelor's Track: Entering Eligible Graduate Degree-Granting Program
Will you be able to enter a GRFP eligible graduate degree-granting program by Fall following the GRFP Award notification?
Level 1
Based on the information provided, you should apply as a Level 1 applicant. Level 1 applicants can apply multiple times. Applicants must be prepared to begin fellowship in the fall semester following award.
